January 2023 WCDC Meeting Re-Cap

The Committee re-elected our current officers to an additional two-year term. Congratulations to Sara Salley, Chair; Paul Robie, Vice Chair; Pam Chase, Treasurer; and Reeves Gilmore, Secretary. Pam has let us know that we need to find a replacement for her as Treasurer due to her increased family obligations. Please let us know if you could serve as Treasurer. We’re grateful for Pam’s service to the Committee and want to respect her need to tend to her family’s well-being. Email us at info@waldocountydemocrats.com.

Mid-winter Get-together in the Works. WCDC is planning an in-person get-together this winter as a cabin-fever reliever and volunteer appreciation event, and the Committee authorized funds to hold a very nice gathering. We know that Covid is a concern, so we’re asking you to let us know how you feel about getting together indoors this winter. Please fill out this quick online survey at https://forms.gle/eTt8mqSumjzShYnK8. If you have any questions or want to let us know what you think without filling out the survey, email your thoughts on the topic to info@waldocountydemocrats.com. Thank you for your feedback!

MDP Leadership Elections. Our Democratic State Committee representatives – Laura Baker, Philo Hutcheson, and Reeves Gilmore – will be voting in this month’s party leadership elections to choose a number of new party officers and standing committee members (learn more here). Two of the officer candidates attended our meeting Sunday to introduce themselves and answer questions:

  • Bev Uhlenhake, current MDP Vice Chair, is running for Chair and can be reached at bevuhlenhake@gmail.com or (207) 949-2569.
  • Julian Rogers, current York County Vice Chair and Chair of MDP’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, is running for Vice Chair and can be reached at housecalls70@gmail.com or 207-420-1191.

Campaign & Engagement Committee is Collecting Local Elections Info. Valerie Tate reported that the Campaign & Engagement Committee is gathering information about each town’s local elections, so we’re better prepared to recruit and support candidates for those important positions. If you can make a phone call to your town office and record the info in a simple form, please email us at info@waldocountydemocrats.com. Your help will be much appreciated!

WCDC Bylaws Getting an Update. Members discussed ideas for updating our bylaws to accomplish several goals: To include more people in Committee leadership through an expanded executive committee; to better reflect our current ad hoc and standing committees; and to create a better budgeting process.

Please note: The WCDC office will remain closed until Spring. In the meantime, you can visit our website at www.waldocountydemocrats.com, email us at info@waldocountydemocrats.com, or call Chair Sara Salley at 232-1028.

Our next meeting will be Sunday February 12 at 1pm on Zoom (preregister here).
