Clean Elections Contributions

During the election cycle, candidates for the State Legislature can get Maine Clean Elections funding if they collect enough $5 contributions to qualify. To make a $5 Qualifying Contribution to your local Clean Elections candidate, go to this secure Maine.gov website. Enter your address and the website will show you which candidates are eligible for your $5 Qualifying Contribution based on where you live. You can make contributions on the website with a credit or debit card. Every eligible voter in you household can also make a donation, so share the link with them!

The Maine Clean Elections program is a public campaign financing system that helps keep corporate and out-of-state money out of our local races, helps level the playing field among candidates, and makes running a campaign affordable for people who aren’t wealthy. Clean Elections candidates collect a certain number of small $5 contributions from individual voters in their district to qualify for public campaign funding, and they are held to strict rules on how they may spend it. They aren’t allowed to use their own or others’ money for their campaign, other than in very limited circumstances. Learn more about Maine Clean Elections.

Other Campaign Contributions

Clean Elections funding isn’t available to all candidates — county officials such as County Commissioners and Sheriff, as well as judicial system officials, such as District Attorney and Probate Judge rely on traditional funding. Reach out to individual candidates to find out how you can help.

The Maine Senate Democratic Campaign Committee and Maine House Democratic Campaign Committee share a mission to keep a Democratic majority in the Maine Legislature. You can help provide candidates with the training, expert advice, and campaign field staff needed to make that happen by supporting them with a donation. Visit their websites to learn more.
