Persistence brings hope; and hope gives us the energy to persist.
Waldo County Dems have been super busy. Check out our October meeting re-cap to learn more about our activities from July to our October WCDC meeting.
Since our October meeting, we staffed a very busy Waldo County Dems table at the October 18 No Kings Day Protest.
We learned of a very conservative candidate running for one of two open Belfast seats on the RSU 71 school board; sought out a highly qualified candidate who would exemplify democratic values to run as a write-in candidate; and by great good fortune and a strong recommendation from Cooper Reed, found Madison Cook who ran an incredible campaign. We also strongly supported incumbent Martha Proulx. Both Martha and Madison were elected in a huge turnout by large margins over the extremely conservative candidate.
Thanks to our robust canvassing operation supported by Maine Dems field organizer Benjamin Costa, Waldo County voters handily defeated Question 1 which would have suppressed voting, especially absentee voting; and voted in favor of Question 2 in support of a red flag law.
November 9 was our well-attended WCDC Forum on DEIB: What it means to be an American – Liberty and Justice for All.
December 13 will be one of our Waldo County Woodshed volunteer days, with lunch for a maximum of 15 workers.
December 14 will be our Gathering of Young Leaders. Civic minded young(ish) activists will gather to build social capital and learn about opportunities to volunteer while having FUN! Partner organizations will include Maine Young Dems, Maine Youth Power, and JustME for JustUS. WCDC members and friends are encouraged to invite 2 or 3 younger people to attend with them.
Our January 11 2026 WCDC meeting will help to prepare us for our first countywide caucus on March 1.
