Waldo County Democrats: 2026 Caucus

This year, for the first time, Waldo County Democrats will be gathering in a county-wide caucus, rather than individual municipal caucuses!

2026 Caucus
Waldo County Democrats
Sunday, March 1, 2:00 PM
Belfast Area High School
25 Lion's Way, Belfast, Maine

All Waldo County registered Democrats are welcome to participate in the caucus, including 17-year-olds who will be 18 by Election Day, November 3, 2026. Sign up here to attend.

Participants will connect with fellow Democrats; meet candidates; and decide how they want to organize for a Blue Tsunami in 2026

The caucus will elect up to 44 delegates and 9 alternates to the Maine Democratic Party State Convention which is scheduled for May 1 – 2 in Portland. State convention delegates vote on the party platform, elect delegates to the National Democratic Convention, and take care of other party business. In order to appear on the written ballot at the caucus, Democrats may nominate themselves to run for delegate by filling out this form by February 22. There will also be an opportunity for nominations from the floor during the caucus.

The caucus will include music and food. Childcare will be available. The venue is ADA accessible.

Anyone not registered as a voter or who votes as “unenrolled” may register as a Democrat at their town office up until the Friday before the caucus.

Voters enrolled in another party, who would like to change their party affiliation to Democrat, must do so before February 13 in order to participate in the Democratic caucus on March 1. Note: Maine currently has four qualified parties: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green Independent. Although some unenrolled candidates choose to designate themselves as “Independent,” there is no “Independent” party in Maine.

Everyone who has changed their registration status in the weeks coming up to the caucus should bring some proof in case the update has not yet appeared on voter rolls. Election clerks are not required to attend a county-wide caucus to register voters, so it’s important for voters to make sure they are registered as Democrats ahead of time!

Here’s information on elections and voter applications from the Maine Secretary of State.
